Re-Start

Restart is the schools Learning Support Unit (LSU) and provides targeted intervention for learners to support inclusion at Werneth. Students are referred by pastoral managers and SLT at inclusion panel. Students then access the centre to build healthy self esteem, improve attendance and re-engage with learning and positive behaviour in a nurturing and supportive environment.

Opportunities are provided for students to access group work employing S.E.A.L teaching and learning to support improved behaviour and removing barriers to learning. Some students access the L.S.U on a part time basis whilst others engage in a comprehensive 4-6 week programme resulting in full re-integration into mainstream. All students are tracked and monitored by restart staff each day and also during reintegration. Many students access Restart for support during transfer processes from other schools.

Restart provides intervention where those students who require intensive support can begin a process, which, where appropriate will endeavour to

Provide short term teaching away from mainstream to re-engage with learning
Maintain continuity with the school curriculum at KS 3&4
Identify Barriers to learning and work towards removing them
Provide personalised support programmes to meet the specific needs of the learners
Improve social skills and modify behaviour
Support the establishment of healthy self esteem
Re-integrate learners back into mainstream successfully
Support teaching staff through successful reintegration
Reduce fixed tern and permanent exclusions
Work in partnership with other teaching staff, co- professionals and outside agencies
Establish and maintain sustainable and effective parent partnerships.
