Within KS3 Design Technology students get the opportunity to study and gain practical skills in -
Student rotate round termly to visit each area following the design process to design and make products using a variety of materials including wood, plastics and material.

In year 7 students design & make a CAM linkage Toy. The theme is cartoon character or design of their own. They will produce a design folder developing graphic and presentation skills as well as carrying out their own research. They also design and make a working hardboard model and packaging.
In year 8 students design & make a steady hand game. Student’s will chose their own theme. They will produce a design folder and carry out their own research. They design and make their game, which includes a simple electric circuit.
In year 9 students design & make a chocolate mould with packaging. Students will study mass production and use the vacuum former to produce the mould. Students will produce a design folder-developing graphic and presentation skills as well as carry out their own research. Students then design a former and make it out of MDF and use this to make the mould students also deign the packaging for their product.
In year 7 students are involved in a design and make project, the theme being Concorde. They produce a small design folder and make a wooden Concorde model using MDF and Pine. Students learn about the use of templates in industry and how to use a variety of tools safely.
In year 8, the project theme is a nought’s and crosses game. They also produce a small design folder and make noughts and crosses game using Pine and MDF. This project also involves the use of Jigs, CAD/CAM (Computer Aided Design/Manufacture). Safe use of tools is essential.
In year 9 , the project theme is a pull along frog As well as a small design folder. The pull along frog is made using MDF and involves the use of templates and has a working mechanism. This project uses a range of power tools in the workshop so again safety is essential.
