Within KS3 Design Technology students get the opportunity to study and gain practical skills in -
Student rotate round termly to visit each area.
In food we study healthy eating, the Eat well Plate and follow the Licence to Cook program.
All students get the opportunity to gain invaluable practical cooking skills cooking at least every other week.
In Year 7 students learn how to use a knife and the cooker safely and measure accurately.
They make a fruit salad, crumble, scones and pizza learning the rubbing in method.
In year 8 students consolidate their practical skills and look at nutrition in more detail. we introduce staple foods and multicultural dishes.
They make a soup, bread, risotto and pasta dishes.
In year 9 we concentrate on the design process to look at pastry and make jam tarts and bakewell tarts. We then study a healthy eating project which shows the students how they can make healthy, nutritious every day meals without using packets or jars! They make a sweet and sour stir fry, a curry, bolognaise or chilli.

Food Technology homework is now internet based and will follow tasks set on the License To Cook website www.licencetocook.org.uk. When accessing this website students will be asked to enter a user specific logon and password. Your son/daughter will be given these passwords in school and be asked to enter the details into their planners. Each year student will be required to complete three homework tasks, which should take three to four hours in total. Each task has an assessment at the end which students should complete and which will be assessed online.
Each homework task is listed below:
Year 7 Cooking section - assessment 1, 2, 3
Year 8 Eating section - assessment 1 & 2 | Shopping section - assessment 1
Year 9 Shopping section - assessment 2 | Protecting section - assessment 1 & 2
