The ICT department at Werneth School is vibrant and engaging for all students. With six subject specialist teachers all based in multi-media rooms on the first floor we deliver a deep and varied curriculum as a core subject to all students at Werneth. Results at Key Stage 3 are consistently in line with national and local expectations and have increased year on year. We have achieved consistently high results at Key Stage 4 and are one of the leading ICT departments in Stockport for delivering ICT to all students.

Students at Key Stage 3 have ICT once a week and follow the National Curriculum with opportunities for students to achieve between Level 3 and Level 8. Students study a variety of topics based on improving knowledge, skills and understanding in all areas of Information Communication Technology curriculum. In Year 7 students complete 6 introductory units to ensure basic skills and understanding are achieved by all. This application is developed throughout Year 8 with short projects including Modeling using spreadsheets, Web design and Graphics. Students studying in Year 9 complete the Key Stage by working on three in-depth projects offering opportunities to extend their skills and shine. These projects are based around collecting and analysing data, creating and animating a mascot suitable for a school team and using control and sequencing to create a short compute game for children.

At Key Stage 4 all students study ICT for two lessons a week. Students work towards completing Edexcels Certificate in Digital Applications (comparable with two GCSEs). Within this very successful course student’s work independently on two project briefs producing the required outcomes, these vary but include a variety of print and digital publications (such as posters, leaflets, screensavers and digital posters) and tasks which involve data handling often incorporating spreadsheets and databases. Upon completion of these projects students create electronic portfolios (similar to websites) where all evidence is electronic.
In addition to this all students have the opportunity to opt for the Digital Diploma in Digital Applications where they complete additional units of work which add depth to their skills and understanding. Students complete units in Graphics, Multimedia and Enterprise.
