Transition from Primary School to Secondary School

One of the unique advantages we can offer here at Werneth is that of two Learning Mentors solely to aid the transition between Year 6 and Year 7.

Any questions year 5 or 6 have about Werneth School, can simply email our Transition Mentors.

Email: caroline.cherrington@wernethschool.com or victoria.smith@wernethschool.com.

The Learning Mentors have qualifications in mentoring, youth work and counseling. As a team they have worked together on a transition programme for several years which has proved highly successful in smoothing what can be a stressful time for children and their families.

Their service is also extended to parents who have any issues or concerns regarding their children and they are available at any time throughout the school day.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

1. How do I apply for a place at Werneth School?
Stockport Admissions will send a form to parents of Year 6 students requesting your 3 choices of preferred secondary schools, along with additional information that will support your application.  The forms should be completed and returned to Admissions in paper format or on-line before the due date (approx. October).

2. When do I apply?
The forms will be sent to you, via your child’s Primary School, in September, just after your child has started in Yr 6.

3. What happens after I’ve submitted my request?
The allocation process is a lengthy one.  You will receive confirmation of receipt of your request initially and then nothing more until February, when you will receive a letter from Stockport Admissions, to your home address, advising you which school your child has been offered a place.

4. Will I be accepted at Werneth School?
If you live in the local area and/or attend one of its associated primary schools and choose Werneth School as your first preference, you are likely to be offered a place.  If you live outside of the local area, it will be dependent on whether there are any places available after the initial allocation.  It is possible to appeal for a place at Werneth School if your child is not offered a place here or you are not in the catchment area.

5. Why choose Werneth School?

Werneth School now has a specialist school status, a college of performing and visual arts, there is something for every pupil to enjoy alongside the core curriculum.

You can request a tour around Werneth School and be introduced to staff.
