Coronavirus Updated Government Guidance for Schools

with effect from Monday.  An Edulink message was sent to all parents and carers yesterday, detailing the new Coronavirus regulations.  A quick reminder:

  • Everyone should continue to test themselves twice weekly at home
  • Hands, face, space and regular washing of hands
  • Social distancing remains in place at the moment in classrooms
  • We will maintain our year based bubbles at social times and in teaching groups, and keep the same separate staircases in school for year groups until further notice.
  • FACE COVERINGS
  • for students these are no longer recommended by the government at all in school.  However students may continue to wear them if they wishParents should of course discuss any preferences with their child(ren).
  • for staff these are no longer recommended by the government in classrooms.  However, staff may continue to wear them if they wish.  Where social distancing cannot be achieved around school, staff should still wear a face covering.
  • We will continue to restrict school visitors on a basis of only coming into school where necessary.  Visitors will need to wear a face covering in school.

  • Headteachers have been asked by Public Health England to stress to everyone that the Coronavirus threat is not entirely past yet, and we need to exercise caution.  We may need to reintroduce measures if necessary in the future.  There are still cases in Stockport, and we need to respond with actions, in the events of any increased trends of positive cases that may happen in the future.

  • Our Year 11 students have been working hard this week on their formal assessments in school - they are taking them seriously and working hard in their final weeks in school.

  • I visited Bredbury Green Primary School this Wednesday with our Year 7 transition team, to meet the students who will be joining us at Werneth in September.  Lovely to get a tour of the school with the headteacher.  It was great to meet them, and interesting to see some familiar faces with older brothers and sisters already doing well here at Werneth.  I am looking forward to visiting Woodley Primary School next week.

  • Uniform Consultation: Possible Change of school uniform As a school, we are always looking at ways to improve.  As part of this, we wish to review our current school uniform.  In order to make a full and informed decision as a school community, we are consulting with parents, students, staff and governors. The decision about whether to retain the existing uniform or move to a revised one will be informed by this process.  Parents and carers - please now have your say on our new uniform by following the link here:Uniform Consultation for Parents and Carers

  • Are you offering any employment opportunities for summer work? A few local businesses have been in touch looking for reliable Year 11s to help support them this summer. There are a number of our students looking for work this summer who are reliable, earnest and willing. If you would like to offer anything to our students please email alison.phillips@wernethschool.com with details so we can let our students know.

  • Stockport Council's Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) Week of Action takes place 17th to 21st May 2021.  Visit Stockport Local Offer for more information: They have a jam-packed week of webinars and activities for parents and carers to help make SEND everyone’s business. Book your slots now if you haven’t already – there are plenty of sessions for parents/carers!  The programmes are listed here: SEND Events and bookings can be made through their Eventbrite page.
  •
  • Werneth School Boxing Club started this week after school, and we have had a really positive response from our students.  Years 8 and 9 Club is held on Tuesday and Years 10 and 11 Club on Wednesday for the next 6 weeks.  If your son/daughter is interested please see Mr Brierley in the PE department.
